It’s hard to deal with the fact that our children and grandchildren are not being taught the tools to transition from high school into the adult world. Most of the kids today, those not going to college, will join the work force but haven’t a clue as to the “rules of the road”. With our economy in such turmoil and the job market at its lowest point in years, these kids need all the help and every opportunity we can offer to them to succeed. Our schools have always taught how to add two and two and but most of them don’t teach our kids how to balance their check book, let alone, what a contract is and what the legal ramifications are when they sign one without reading, or having the knowledge of what the words mean. The meaning of these words, credit rating, FICO score, debit, reconciliation, judgement and garnishment are foreign to them. They really don’t understand consequences.
Our world today is different from the one most of us adults grew up in. It’s sad to say our education system has forgotten to prepare our young adults for the realities of what they will face when they walk out the doors of high school or even college, after graduation, and have expectations they may not be able to fulfill.
I have taken this information into our high schools and spoken to graduating classes and realized I needed to be able to get this information out to not just those living close to me.
Our kids today know about computer games, Facebook, MySpace, cell phone “apps” texting, and Google. Will those things prepare them for what a landlord wants from them when they go out to rent their first apartment? They have not been prepared about the one thing we all need to know about in order to succeed the world of finance and how it works and what our responsibilities are in how we handle our money, They were not taught how the legal system works! They have no clue of what will happen if they get a speeding ticket and later find out their car insurance has gone up once again and their credit card interest took a hike too because of the ticket. “But mom, it was just a traffic ticket”. So what are you going to tell them?
Do we just say to them “welcome to the real world”, go out and make the mistakes in order to learn how to do it right? Or do we give them some information they can use for the rest of their lives? I have written this at their level and with humor, with words they can understand and apply to be a success in their future. This is my gift to you and your kids! It will be the best money you have spent on them in a long time. It will not get consumed, it will not rust and need to be thrown away and it will never be considered out of date! If they read it all and understand it they will be ahead of the game! If they only read a portion and understand just a few of the terms they will have more knowledge about life then they had before and more than most of their friends.
Give them the chance to get ahead of the game and say the same thing I can say today! “I am truly a success story and proud of it but I had to learn “the rules of the road” the hard way! Hopefully what I have written will save that kid you love from going over some of the bumps on the road to adulthood.

I don't think the book is just limited to help teenagers but it would certainly help anyone under 40 that hasn't had the hard knocks of learning about finances like we did. You hit the nail right on the head when you said parents don't want to share their financial situation with their teenagers... you are right. My parents did this and I did the same thing with my kids. What a mistake.Product details

This book is a must for a teenager or young adult. I teach high school students and they definitely aren't prepared for the real world of finance, and this book gives them some very valuable tools to understand and establish some economic stability as a young adult. This book is well overdo and definitely worth the read!
